Pop shots! with…James Peploe

I recently joined FPCUK ‘The Largest Funko Community In The UK’ (on Facebook) and found it a very friendly and welcoming group. With so many collectors out there I thought it would be the perfect place to delve in and see just what goes on in the minds of the FPCUK members. So join me today as I begin this weekly venture, starting off with…

Name James Peploe

How long have you been a collector? Since December 2016 when I was given my first Pop as a Christmas gift.

How many Pops! are in your collection?  I have 93 Pops in my collection which ranges from films, TV, sports, WWE and (mainly) superheroes and villains.

Who/what was the first Pop! you ever bought? My 1st Pop was Richard Sherman from my favorite NFL team the Seattle Seahawks and was bought by my other half Debbie. Five months later and my total is 93!

Which is your favorite Pop! in your collection? It’s a hard question as I have 2 Pops that I love equally; Ghost Rider and Bank Robber Joker. If I had to choose 1 right now I’d have to go with Ghost Rider (purely because he looks really mean) both these Pops were won on raffles too, which makes them extra sweet for me.

What is the most money you have ever spent on one Pop? The most I have ever spent on Pops is actually a deal for 2 when I got Jay and Silent Bob for £70. The most I have ever spent on a single Pop would be £50 for Tony Montana.

What do you think it is about Pops! that make them so addictive? Everyone has a favorite film and TV show or sport etc and these are the perfect collectibles to represent your favorite characters from them. They’re detailed and look good on display and are also an excellent hobby to share with others. It also helps that the Pop community is really nice too. I love sharing and showing off my collection. It just makes me want to collect more!

And finally…keep it in or take it out and play with it? I’m an inbox collector (a damaged box makes me real sad) but sometimes I get Pops that I think would look cool out of the box. So in the future,  I could be a mix between the two.

James also had a good idea for an 8th question, which is…

What is your ultimate grail Pop? Ace Ventura. He was the 1st Pop I ever saw and as I only started collecting in December he has always been expensive and hard to get hold of. It’s also one of my favorite films too.

Thank you to James for taking part, and if you’d like to too, then let me know on Twitter!

Today I have the pleasure of talking to my favorite Funko Pop Toy Hunter…@Toyhuntr! If you’re not familiar with his work, you can check him out here, (and I highly recommend you do so) but before you go hit subscribe, let’s see how his collector’s mind works.

Name Jeffrey Hemingway

How long have you been a collector? August 2016

How many Pops! are in your collection? Currently 84

Who/what was the first Pop! you ever bought? Hot Topic exclusive Joker from Suicide Squad

Which is your favorite Pop! in your collection? That’s such a hard question. I’d have to say at the moment it’s the Hot Topic exclusive Maleficent. It changes by the day, though.

What is the most money you have ever spent on one Pop? $22.99 for the Wonder Woman and her invisible jet pop. I make a concerted effort, not to over spend for pops. I’m always searching for deals.

What do you think it is about Pops! that make them so addictive? I think pops are so addictive ’cause of the simplistic, yet detailed look of them. Plus, I have this running theory that, at least for me, I find them so addictive ’cause of the media they’re based on. I think I grow and emotional attachment to these pops ’cause of the love I have for a certain show or comic or movie. So when I see a pop version of my favorite character from whatever medium I’m instantly hooked.

And finally…keep it in its box? or take it out and play with it? Out of the box! I love taking pictures of my pops. I feel like if I’m going through all this effort to hunt down them down and spend my hard earned money on them I want to do more than just stare at them in a box. I could walk into a store and do that.

As always the prices are from Pop Price Guide, as of this blog post (12/05/17) and in USD.

Pop Shots! With…@Jessicka421

Today is the turn of our first female collector! (and one from across the pond too!) So let’s dive straight in and meet @Jessicka421

Name Jessicka

How long have you been a collector? I’ve recently started into serious collecting, before that, I would receive pops from Lootcrate or would buy them solely based on the character I was into at that time.

How many Pops! are in your collection? According to poppriceguide.com where I keep track of all my pops, I currently own 81 pops.

Who/what was the first Pop! you ever bought? Gah! this is truly hard to answer, but I believe it was the X-Force Deadpool pop.

Which is your favorite Pop! in your collection? My favorite would have to be my glow in the dark Cthulhu. He is the perfect amount of pint-sized adorable. Plus he has the power to haunt your dreams and lose your sanity!

What is the most money you have ever spent on one Pop? About $20 is probably the most. Plus tax. I am however seriously considering dropping $150 on Nerd Cthulhu…

What do you think it is about Pops! that make them so addictive? I think it’s that they incorporate a plethora of interests and characters from pop culture we love so much. I love looking at my pops because they include small intricate and awesome detail. It’s so exciting to find out what little gadgets upcoming pops will have next. I read that one reader describing pops as “visual crack.” I also think pops can be described as “vinyl crack” because the smell of a brand new pop is truly satisfying..mmm….vinyl. (props to my good pop hunting buddy sir_meshuggala @instagram for the “vinyl crack” reference)

Pop Shots! With…@Renaldz_

This week is the turn of more Twitter fam. It’s @Renaldz_

Name Scott

How long have you been a collector? On and off for around 4 years, but upped my game the last year or so.

How many Pops! are in your collection? 21

Who/what was the first Pop! you ever bought? The first Pop I ever bought was Edward from Assassins Creed Black Flag. Still got him now and he’s vaulted! which was a nice surprise.

Which is your favorite Pop! in your collection? This is a close one between my Classic Batman Batmobile and my Demogorgon chase! Will have to go with the Demogorgon as it’s a chase.

What is the most money you have ever spent on one Pop? It would likely be £15 on my ECCC Captain America. The Batmobile was part of a trade so I won’t count that.

What do you think it is about Pops! that make them so addictive? It has to be the sheer volume of different types. There is something for everyone and hunting for elusive exclusives is an addiction in itself!

Where can people find you (on social media?) You can find me on Twitter here, but I don’t use anything else. I have tried YouTube but I don’t have the time or money to build quality content!

And finally…keep it in its box? Or take it out and play with it? Kept in the box 100%. Not only are the pops amazing but so is the box art too!
